Rules of Play
Euchre Tournament Rules:

  • Progressive/Round Robin Format: Players rotate partners and tables after each round, ensuring varied gameplay and competition.
  • Number of Rounds and Hands: Tournaments consists of 8 rounds, with 8 hands each. Team with the highest score after 8 hands. In the case of a tie, the team to reach the high score first moves to the next table.
  • Partnerships: New partnerships are formed each round. Winners move to the next sequential table number and split. One of the winners calls ‘Red/Black’, one of the losing team mates cuts the deck. If they match, they are partners for that round. If not, then the caller is partners with the non-cutting team member.
  • Dealing and Bidding: Players take turns dealing, and a “kitty” card is turned up to initiate the bidding for trump.
  • Trump Selection: Players can either order up the suit of the turned-up card during the first round of bidding. In the second round of bidding, any suit other than the turned down trump can be called as trump.
  • Playing the Hand: Players must follow suit if possible; otherwise, they can play any card, including trump.
  • Scoring: Points are awarded for winning tricks (3 or 4 tricks = 1 point, all 5 tricks = 2 points), If a player states they are “going alone” and makes all 5 tricks = 4 points. If the bidding team fails to make their bid, this is a Euchre and the opposing team receives 2 points. If you are Euchred on a loaner, the opposing team receives 4 points.
  • “Stick the Dealer”: If all players pass on the first round of bidding, the dealer must name a trump suit.
  • Reneging: Not following suit when able results in a penalty of 2 points to the opposing team and immediately ends of the hand.
