Leslie is 50 years old and has been diagnosed with Niemann Pick Type C. Niemann Pick Type C is an ultra-rare, neurodegenerative disease. This condition impacts the body’s ability to store and transport cholesterol and lipids within cells. As a result, it causes a harmful buildup of these substances in the brain, liver, and spleen, resulting in progressive, severe neurological and cognitive decline. Related to this she has a secondary diagnosis of frontal temporal dementia. This condition causes breakdown of nerve cells in the frontal and temporal areas of the brain.
Leslie’s symptoms began at age 44 and have rapidly progressed. She has been treated by a neurologist since 2019 and did not receive a diagnosis until October 2025. During the summer of 2024, she experienced a significant decline that led to multiple hospitalizations and stays in short term rehabs and more tests than you can count. In the last 18 months Leslie went from being completely independent and employed full-time to being bedridden and physically dependent. She enjoyed working Chick-fil-a and took great pride in her role. She enjoys being social and valued the relationships she made with her coworkers and customers. This loss of employment led to financial strain and loss of independence. Leslie is a mother of 3 children, and it is a role that she is most proud of. Her youngest son is 16 years old and is set to graduate from Wyoming high school in 2027. Despite the difficulties she has faced, she remains positive and cherishes all the time spent with her family and friends. Access to a handicapped vehicle will allow her to attend her son’s sporting events and support her children.
